Toyota has been the name when it comes to reliability. It has conquered the market in the D-2 SUV segment in the country with the undisputed Fortuner. Currently, in its second-generation, the Fortuner has always managed to sell in considerable numbers even after its hefty price tag. USPs are its reliable engine and built-to-last quality from Toyota. Even though the competition has more features to offer, there’s the Toyota badge at the front that takes it all away. With all of this being said, Toyota has kept on bringing new variants for this full-size SUV that has only increased its top-of-the-line pricing. Now, one more variant has been brought in for the Fortuner. In today’s article, we will be talking about this new Toyota Fortuner variant, what it has on offer and whether this SUV will get more costly because of this.

What is the Leader variant?

This ‘Leader’ package for the Fortuner is packed with some new goodies that include Legender-inspired grille and bumpers, black side step, new 18-inch alloy wheels along with some additional features. Overall, the Fortuner Leader looks like a blend of the Legender and standard variants.

‘Leader’ offers more features

The ‘Leader’ houses additional safety features like blind spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, rear and front-rear parking sensors with 6 position parking sensor alarm, PM 2.5 Air Filter, automatic high, low-beam adjustment features, etc.

Mechanically, the car selling on Thailand shores is different from what we get in here. The car in Thailand gets a 2.4-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed AT gearbox. This 2.4-litre is powerful enough to propel the Fortuner with 148bhp & 400Nm of torque. Further drivetrain options let you choose between the hardcore 4×4 model and the regular 4×2 rear-wheel drive.

Toyota Fortuner new variant & pricing

Toyota Fortuner variant

Toyota has initially unveiled the ‘Leader’ variant in Thailand. It is available in Leader G & Leader V variants with prices starting from Rs 29.85 lakh. Now, there is no confirmation whether this particular variant will be launched in India. However, if Toyota does plan to bring the Leader to India, it could open another design option for the buyers here. Toyota already has the standard model, the Legender as well as the GR-S for sale in India. As mentioned above, the Leader just gets some exterior styling elements from the Legender as well as the standard model, so bringing it to India might not be a very sensible option for the brand. However, only time will tell what Toyota has in mind.

Now, will it get more costly? Highly unlikely since these are just cosmetic changes over the standard variants, so the pricing would mostly fall below the Fortuner Legender pricing. With that being said, the top-of-the-line Fortuner GR-S variant today costs Rs 59.93 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
