Earlier this year, Tata revealed its two new EV concepts highlighting the brand’s vision going forward. The two concepts – Curvv and Avinya, both have some distinctive features. Tata Curvv concept comes based on Gen-2 Architecture, while the Avinya concept comes based on Gen-3 Architecture. The Avinya could probably be Tata’s most advanced EV, however, it will be missing out on a very important feature. So what is this missing feature? It is the touchscreen infotainment system. What will Avinya get instead of an infotainment screen then? In today’s article, let’s talk about this missing feature of the Tata Avinya.

No touchscreen?

Big infotainment screens have become a part & parcel of modern cars. A car with a small infotainment system looks quite outdated by today’s standards. But earlier this year, Tata clearly went against the trend with its Avinya concept. So what did Tata do? The Avinya concept doesn’t come with an infotainment system on the dashboard. In recent times, Volvo and its subsidiary Polestar have also indicated the need for small or no touchscreens. BMW’s design head had also said similar things about infotainment systems.

So Tata wants to get rid of infotainment, but what will replace it? According to Tata, their future cars will provide a minimalistic experience to the occupants. The Avinya gets a slim, well-integrated screen in the steering wheel. This screen will display car-related information like range, speed, etc. Tata also wants to give an overall enriched experience with smell and other factors involved.

The trend of big screens

Globally, the trend of big infotainment systems was started by Tesla. Tesla cars come with a big vertical touchscreen with a load of features. In India, Hyundai was pushing the limits with the big screen, but MG took it a step further. Currently, the Hector comes with a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but MG is taking it a step further with a 14-inch infotainment system that we will get to see in the new Hector. Some manufacturers have even integrated multimedia and AC controls into the infotainment. So will Tata be able to pull off without an infotainment system in the Avinya? What do you think?
