Kia India saw an exponential growth of 40% in the Indian market all thanks to its SUV-focused lineup. The Seltos being the charioteer for the South Korean automaker, Kia is also one of the few brands that has tasted success in just a few years. It has already crossed the 8 lakh sales mark (including export) as it enters 4th year in the Market. However, it’s not always a merry time for the brand. Recently, an Australian report stated that this popular Kia SUV was recalled because of a fire hazard. What actually happened? Let’s know more.
Kia SUV recalled – Important details
A malfunction which has affected the cars from Australia has led to recall of the Kia SLe Sportage (manufactured between 2014 to 2015) and also all variants of the Kia KM Sportage (manufactured between 2007 to 2009). All in all, a total of 12,581 vehicles have been recalled affecting 12,050 vehicles of the ‘SLe’ model and 531 vehicles of the ‘KM’ model. The reason being a faulty hydraulic electronic control unit (HECU). It could create a short circuit if it’s exposed to moisture. The duty of the HECU is to regulate the efficient workings of the onboard safety features. It is responsible for the smooth working of the traction control system, anti-lock braking system, and electronic stability control system.
Kia SUV recalled – Measures to be taken
To prevent any mishap for any of the occupants or any bystanders around the car, Kia has advised not to park the car inside the garage or nearby of any flammable structures. Not only driving but parking should also prevented because the engine compartment could lit on fire even when the engine is off. Therefore, an immediate recall notice has been propagated to elude any kind of hazards. Owners of these affected Kia cars are required to visit the nearest Kia Australia dealer to arrange a free inspection and get their car repaired.
