Mahindra has started to play its cards in the EV segment. It knows it is a bit late to the party, but it wants to quickly gain the lost ground. Mahindra unveiled 5 new electric SUVs this week. These cars are ground-up EVs with great range & performance figures. The first electric car, the XUV.e8 will be launched in 2024. But, what does Mahindra want do in this time? It will convert some of its ICE cars into EVs. The first car to get this treatment will be the XUV300. Its electric version will be called the XUV400 and is greatly expected to disrupt the EV segment. In today’s article, let’s talk about Mahindra’s next electric car, how will it disrupt the segment and when is it launching.
What do we know?
The XUV400 is mostly going to be the nameplate for this EV. Also, the XUV400 will not be a sub-four-metre car like its ICE version, as it will be based on the original SsangYong Tivoli Platform. The reason behind this is the already low taxation on EVs. So Mahindra could use the extra length for more boot space. Earlier spy shots have also revealed the tweaked taillamp design and new alloy wheels. According to reports, the XUV400 could get level 1 ADAS to take on the competition. Like the XUV300, the XUV400 could retain the spacious interiors and comfortable suspension.
Now, ADAS is something that has not been offered in this segment yet. With this, Mahindra would definitely want to tap on the safety-conscious segment of buyers.
Range & specifications
Battery and powertrain information is limited for now. But as we come closer to the launch, more details are expected to surface. According to reports, it could get a 150bhp motor. In terms of a battery pack, Mahindra is using high-density NMC cells. What’s the highlight of these cells? These cells are known for delivering good range and performance. Mahindra will be looking to give it a range on par with the Nexon EV Max. Currently, the Nexon EV Max gets a claimed range of 437km. What are your expectations from the XUV400? Do let us know in the comments.
Although these are speculations, we expect Mahindra to revolutionise this segment as well. Powerful motors and impressive range figures could be the main point of attraction for buyers.
Mahindra electric car – Launch & pricing
According to various sources, Mahindra could launch the XUV400 on the 6th of September 2022. What about pricing? Mahindra of late has been known for its aggressive pricing and we can expect the same on the XUV400. It could start from Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing will pit it directly against the Tata Nexon, and with its specifications, it could also take on the MG ZS EV.
