Tata is taking big strides in the EV segment. It already has three electric cars – the Nexon EV Prime, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV. The Nexon EV Max is its newest and most advanced electric car. What’s so special about the EV Max? The EV Max gets a claimed range of 437km, which should translate to a real-world range of around 330km to 350km. Also, it comes with a few extra features that enhance its desirability. So if the Nexon EV Max is so good, does the Nexon EV Prime actually make sense for anybody? In today’s article let’s talk about the Nexon EV Prime and how it stacks against the new Tata Nexon EV Max.

What is the EV Prime?

Let’s first understand what the Nexon EV Prime actually is. In June, Tata launched the Nexon EV Max which is essentially a long-range version of the regular EV. After that, to better differentiate the normal Nexon EV from the Nexon EV Max, Tata upgraded the Nexon EV to Nexon EV Prime. So, was it just the name that received an upgrade? No. Tata has added a sleeve of features on the EV Prime. It gets new features like multi-mode regen, charging timeout of 110 seconds, cruise control, Indirect Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (iTPMS) and smart-watch integrated connectivity. In terms of specifications, it continues with the 127bhp motor paired with a 30.2kWh battery pack. This battery pack gives it a claimed range of 312km which translates to a real-world range of around 250km.

So we have talked about everything regarding the Nexon EV Prime. But how does it stack against the EV Max? The biggest difference is the battery pack size. Just comparing the company claimed range figures, the EV Max is capable of offering additional range of 125km. Also, the EV Max gets more features over the Nexon EV Prime. Additional features like ventilated seats, auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charging, air purifier, all-disc brakes, ESP and electronic parking brake are on offer in the EV Max.

Is the Nexon EV Prime better?

So, coming to the first question – is the Tata Nexon EV Prime better than the Nexon EV Max? This question will not have a straightforward answer. If your driving is below 100km a day, then the EV Prime definitely makes more sense for you. The availability of regen-modes now will also help in increasing its range. Comparing the pricing, the Nexon EV Prime starts from Rs 15.91 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai), while the Nexon EV Max starts from Rs 19.50 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai). So paying a difference of around Rs 4 lakhs OTR would be worth considering if you need that extra range & features. However, the Nexon EV Prime should do the job if your daily driving concludes at around the 100km mark. With that being said, both the EVs have their own set of benefits and you should choose the one which ticks all the boxes for you.
