Tata has been riding high on the success of its new-age SUVs. The Nexon, Punch, Harrier and Safari have helped the brand in establishing a reputable name in the market. Buyers looking for safe, handsome-looking SUVs are attracted to Tata’s catalogue. Now, although the Harrier is just three years old, it has fallen slightly short when it comes to offering everything that a buyer is looking for in 2022. This has happened due to the feature-loaded rivals that have started eating the Harrier’s market away. To turn the situation around, Tata needed a major facelift for the Harrier. And this is exactly what is happening. We were the first ones to break to you that Tata is working on the Harrier and Safari facelifts. We wrote a detailed article on everything to expect from the upcoming facelifts. Today, for the first time, one of our readers, Mr Suraj Desai, has spotted a test mule of the Tata Harrier facelift somewhere in Pune. So, what all do the spy shots reveal and what is the facelift set to come with? Everything in this article.

The first thing that catches the eye is the ORVM module. If you look closely, you can easily spot a camera module, clearly hinting at a 360-degree camera setup in place. Harrier facelift was long touted to come with a 360-degree camera, which is clearly justified for an SUV of this size. Now, overall the exterior looks similar to the current car; even the alloy wheels and tail lamps are similar. However, it is highly likely that Tata will update these elements since our internal sources had mentioned about design elements getting updated too. Reworked front fascia with new headlamps, new grille new alloys and new bumpers are expected. Subtle changes for the rear are also expected to be brought in to give the Harrier a overall fresh look.

One more interesting thing to note is that when the spy shots were zoomed in to scan for more details, we found out that the touchscreen has been heavily covered. This clearly hints that Tata is working on a new touchscreen infotainment system for the Harrier facelift (and the Safari facelift as well). Looking at the size of it, we expect it to be a big unit, possibly between a 10.0-inch to 12.0-inch one, unlike the one that is currently available. The new touchscreen is an interesting case in itself. Tata is developing this new touchscreen unit along with Harman. The new unit, along with offering 360-degree capabilities is expected to some more features.

Tata, along with adding new features to the Harrier (expected ones being ambient lighting, a fully digital instrument cluster, electronic parking brake, etc.), is also expected to bring some ADAS features. As of now, there are no details regarding what the ADAS Level would be, but we expect Tata to pick carefully, considering the current market trends.

The Harrier facelift is also set to come with some essential mechanical changes. The biggest addition to the Harrier facelift is expected to be a petrol engine. Tata has been working on a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine for the Harrier and Safari. This engine is just an extension of the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit (available in cars like Nexon & Altroz) with an added cylinder. Although power figures are unknown, we expect an output of somewhere around 150bhp, atleast. For reference, Harrier’s fiercest rival, the Mahindra XUV700 offers a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine which is capable of producing 197bhp & 380Nm of torque. The diesel engine being directly sourced from Fiat is not expected to see any change.

Tata is also said to be re-working the suspension setup to enhance this SUV’s off-roading capabilities along with enhancing the suspensions’ overall durability.

Pricing & Launch

The Harrier facelift is expected to hit the market sometime around early 2023. As far as the starting price is concerned, it is expected to go down, thanks to the addition of petrol variants. The Harrier facelift is expected to start from somewhere between Rs 13 lakh to Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom).
