Don't buy a diesel car in Delhi?
Delhi RTO has issued separate guidelines in order to curb air pollution from automobiles. As per these rules, usage of diesel cars older than 10 years and petrol cars older than 15 years (from their first registration) is banned in Delhi. Other than this, the Delhi government has issued some more rules and regulations which now create the question of whether should you buy a diesel car in Delhi? Read below.
Why the need for stricter rules?

Since Diwali, the air quality in Delhi has been deprived below normal levels. It is high time now for the officials to take the necessary step. This could take the edge off the health factor in Delhi. Humans and animals could sustain chronic breathing problems, allergies and other respiratory diseases if the air quality remains the same.
Ban on diesel car in Delhi?

By taking several inputs from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the Delhi government has decided to ban the use of all light motor vehicles which are not BS6 compliant. It means that the usage of BS3 and BS4 diesel vehicles would not be allowed to operate in the Delhi NCT region. The government has also put restrictions on the entry of diesel trucks (heavy and medium load) except those that carry essential commodities. Even if your truck is registered in Delhi state, you can’t drive it until these rules are in place. On the other hand, CNG and petrol trucks can continue to enter.
Note – If one is found breaking the given rules, the violator could be fined an amount of Rs 20,000 under Motor Vehicles Act.
What else to know?

Forecast agencies have given a ‘severe’ result for Delhi’s air quality. Now, with the new restrictions coming into place, many commuters might take a hit. This has led to augment public transport. The Delhi govt is likely to hire 1,000 CNG-powered buses from DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) for commuter service.
Should you get a diesel car in Delhi?

The climatic conditions of India’s capital are taking a hit due to the adverse atmospheric conditions. Thus the stringent measures taken in action to curb could play as a spoilsport. Apart from that, there is anyway the monetary loss with the resale value of diesel cars falling due to the 10 year rule of not being able to use a diesel car for longer. Therefore, one should consider all these factors before being sure.
